Surrey Street Market

Commissioned by Croydon Council, SJS are working to renovate, renew and develop Surrey Street Market.

The project aims to improve the public realm and pedestrian experience while developing the character of the market. Narrowing the carriageway creates a new al fresco strip in the regained pavement. Public art pieces are integrated into the streetscape developed in conjunction with Croydon’s Rise Gallery. A new street lighting plan rationalises street furniture, while re-using Victorian lamp posts to retain Surrey Street’s character. Other elements include wayfinding structures, shop front repainting and architectural lighting.
